I wasn't in community when Olindo Mare missed his only two field goals of the season in one game against the Chicago Bears. And I missed Jim Mora's scandal conference the next day when he criticized Mare for blowing the kicks.

I remember thinking two things -- 1) Wow, I can't on the Seahawks coach threw his kicker under the bus; and 2) Man, I wish I hadn't taken the Hawks and 2.

Since that occupation on Sept. 27, Mare has tied a team record that's also shared by Todd Peterson and Josh Brown by making 16 candidates goals in a row. If he makes his first attempt against the 49ers on Sunday, Mare will have the record to himself.

Reporters gathered around Mare's locker Wednesday afternoon and said: "Trust we're not jinxing you." To which Mare replied: "It's too late now. You brought it up."

But Mare's the closest thing to un-jinxable. In his two years here, he has been the most precise kicker in Seahawks' history, making 43 of 48 field goals. That means he connects wellnigh 90 percent of the time.
